The narrative itself will not extend the main campaign in any way and merely serves as extra stories set within the game's open world. In an earlier interview with IGN, Fergusson mentioned that Diablo IV's expansions will feature narrative questlines, with some “richer context” being added around a season's release, which will also follow a theme, resulting in new cosmetics and gameplay mechanics tailored toward it. For those that don't know: Ancient Items were introduced with the previous game - Diablo III - and were basically super rare legendary items that came with bonus modifiers. In short, Diablo 4 is ditching Ancient Items. However, this one should sting a little bit less than some of the previous confirmations. In other words, it hasn't been doing itself any favors with fans. As you may remember, Blizzard has previously confirmed other cut features, such as an offline mode. Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC will drop another gameplay feature from previous games.
